Is Your Business Ready for a Zero-Carbon Future?

Quality Energy • October 28, 2021

According to Clean Energy Council Australia, electricity generation is Australia’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, and taking action now to accelerate the transition to a clean energy future will lessen the volatility in our climate. Beyond the serious threats that greenhouse gas emissions pose to our planet, organisations are now seeing the material risks that climate disasters pose to their businesses.

The Australian government has released Australia’s Long-Term Emission Reduction Plan, aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The plan largely focusses on driving down technology costs rather than taxes. It is expected to deliver economic advantages and lower the investment costs for businesses, compared to a no-action policy.

So, what can businesses do to brace themselves for the inevitable transition to a carbon-free future?

1. Make the switch to solar

As the demand for power, and subsequently, the cost of electricity increase, solar energy is quickly becoming a sustainable and cost-effective solution for businesses all over Australia. Under the new net-zero plan, it is expected the government will continue to incentivise the cost of solar power installation. Not convinced? 2. Monitor your power quality

As we decarbonise our economy, businesses will need to maximise their energy use and reduce electricity wastage wherever possible. A power audit is the most comprehensive way of identifying opportunities to reduce energy usage and costs. The audit process takes an in-depth look at your sites’ consumption, tariffs, energy wastage, then finds the most cost-effective ways to reduce your running costs.

3. Invest in power quality solutions

While Australia transitions from coal-fired power plants to renewable energy, businesses will be required to keep their power quality within tolerance and electrical code. Power quality management can be identified through a power quality audit, then rectified with the use of Active Harmonic FiltersPower Factor Correction, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) and Voltage Optimisation.
