In 2020, Jalna engaged Quality Energy to investigate equipment issues in their packaging manufacturing division, Jalplas Pty Ltd.
Production was being interrupted by machinery malfunctions and there was no clear reason why.
Electrical data monitoring and analysis by the Quality Energy team in early September 2020, revealed high harmonic currents in the factory’s power system.
A customised 200Amp Active Harmonic Filter was recommended for the plant.
The filter was designed and installed by Quality Energy in December 2020, resulting in a stable supply of power and an end to equipment problems and shutdowns.
Total Harmonic Distortion was reduced from 35.81% to 4.42% and the individual harmonic orders were dramatically reduced.
Active Harmonic Filtering is the most effective means of harmonic mitigation in situations where the harmonic levels are affected by many different types of production equipment. The filtering
equipment constantly monitors the harmonic levels and responds accordingly, protecting sensitive equipment from harmonic pollution and bringing harmonic currents and voltages into line with supply authority requirements.
